Problem Statement

With urban farming becoming more prevalent in today’s cities, urban dwellers are becoming interested in growing food in their communities. Many of these people have little to no prior experience farming, this system aims to solve this problem with new and emerging AI technologies.

Design System Components

To create an app enabled surveillance/voice assistant drone.

Drone

Acts as a permanent resident of the garden
Provides surveillance and has constant access to the garden
Utilizes facial recognition software to gather data, formulate tasks, and send updates to the Mobile app

Voice Assistant

Provides conversational interaction when a user needs assistence
Personable guide when garden manager cannot be present
Allows for more flexibility in gardne managers schedule

Mobile App

Creates a community hub
Managers can easily access and notify volunteers
Logs and synthesizes long term data trends and measures plants health overtime

Nonintimidating look encourages garden volunteers to interact with Eden’s Voice Assistant capabilities

Self-Sustainable Docking Station

Self-powered system to minimize energy use and increase accessiblity

Unobtrusive Design

Minimal size to blend into the garden enviornment and minimize drone’s noise pollution

Visual Feedback

Needs the ability to provide nonverbal communication through light and movement if surrounding area is too loud

“Carrot Farmer Chic” indudes friendly soft forms with agricultural inspired colorways

We wanted the drone to have a healthy blend of high tech and natural characteristics, while also being sure it appeared friendly while conversing with the user.
